| Does GAP-RGBM work on the MAC? |
| | Yes and No, GAP-RGBM is developed for the Microsoft windows enviroment and as such not capable of running under the MAC Operating System. However with VirtualPC software running on the MAC Operating System it is possible. To use GAP-RGBM on VPC/Mac, you need to disable the pre-translation. Fortunately, this is possible, as of VirtualPC 6.1 (which is a free update for VirtualPC 6.0 users): - Start the Virtual PC session as normal.
- In the Mac Finder, navigate to the 'Documents' folder in your 'Home' folder.
- Open the 'Virtual PC Scripts' folder.
- Open the 'Toggle Compatibility Mode' script by double clicking it.
- The script opens in Script Editor.
- Click the 'Run' button at the top of the script window.
- Click 'OK' to the informational dialog that appears.
- Click 'Enable' in the next dialog.
Return to the PC session, which is now running in compatibility mode and will be slower, and run GAP-RGBM as normal. When complete, close the program and return the Virtual PC to normal mode by re-running the script above and selecting 'Disable' at the appropriate time Or in Joe Radomski's words: This is what used to work.. Let me know if it still does..

| | This happens mostly on old windows version 95 and 98. The problem is that the MDAC_type is old version. GAP need 2.7 at least. you can download it from the microsoft site at this link. |

| My hardware fingerprint keeps changing |
| | This hardware fingerprint is calculated through the harddisk size/geometry, SMART serial number, the networkcard MAC address and the physical memory. If any of these change, the key will not function so keep your hardware the same until you have received your username / key combination from GAP-Software's sales department. Reformating your disk will also result in a change of hardware fingerprint. |
| GAP Crashes when starting up |
| | On build 1652 and higher this should not occur anymore. On some XP systems, GAP crashes when starting up. At this moment we are still investigating the problem. A workaround for this problem is doing the following. 1. Goto the install directory of GAP. 2. Select the program gap.exe 3. Rightmouse click and select properties 4. Select the compatibility Tab 5. Tick the "Advanced text services" checkbox. Startup GAP and the problem should be cured. |
